This is not something I'd want to save a few pennies on by buying "used."

Kawaii Sticker Flake Slam
This is an example of a sticker flake slam I made using a greeting card, a staple, and 4 x 6 kawaii memos. In this slam, there are themes on each memo sheet, and people put sticker flakes on the sheets that match the theme! All slams should have an opening page that describes the theme of the slam, who the slam was made by, and who the slam is for (that's the person who gets it when it's complete!).
In the first photo, you can see that I left room for someone else's address info so that the slam is returned to them when it's done. The first memo page of the slam is a place for each participant to write their name and address (called a "sign-in page"). Sometimes people send little surprises to all the slam participants when they get their full slam back! I like to only have around four people involved in my slams so that there's less chance of it getting lost/forgotten.
In the second photo, you can see that I made the slam for me. You can also see the "goodbye" page of my slam in that second photo - that's a fun place for people to write a little note for the person who gets the slam when it's full.
The last photo is a shot of a couple of my theme pages. I like to put an example sticker on each page.
I've done slams on letter sets too! You can put a theme on the front and back of each letter paper; then maybe have the sign-in place on one side of the envelope and the made by / made for info on the other side. If you don't have a greeting card, you can cut out card stock to make a little folder for the memo pages.
Decorate your covers if you'd like! Some swappers consider it sloppy to have a staple in the cover, and lots of people use contact paper or packing tape to protect their covers. Slams should be sturdy, but not heavy or bulky. It should be easy (and cheap!) to mail them on!

Prevost's squirrel

Love is in the air at the Small Mammal House at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo this Valentine’s Day weekend. Animal keepers helped set “the mood” for their animal friends, doling out hand-crafted valentines and heart-shaped treasures unlike anything from any greeting card company or chocolatier.
These holiday treats were all given as a form of “enrichment” – items that make an animal’s environment stimulating or challenging through the use of toys, scents, puzzles, and anything else that might provide novelty.
To provide enrichment, the keepers created heart-shaped treats (some frozen) made of a variety of foods including beet juice (hence the red color), pureed apples, grapes, and bananas. In other instances, they wrapped up some small mammal favorites: meal or wax worms in bright Valentine’s Day decorative paper, allowing the animal to mentally and physically decipher how to get to their goodies.
