SD card misfires on photos of Lake Winnesquam, Meredith NH

Twice recently, I shot a bunch of pictures, got home, popped the SD card into my Mac, and ...can't get any pictures from the card.

The first time, they were just gone -- even though something was consuming half the space on the card, there were no files visible in Finder, the command line, etc.

This time, the files showed up in Finder, but you couldn't do anything with a bunch of them -- open in Preview, you get a blank window, run the `file` command in Terminal, you get an input/output error, etc.

Both times, Data Rescue II managed to get back all or nearly all of the photos. All hail DR2, I'll never doubt again.

But still, what's going on here? Do SD cards just konk out after a while? Could it be the camera itself doing something bad to the cards?

Anyway, here we have two photos that were "salvaged", but corrupt. They're kind of interesting this way though, so I'll leave them as-is.
